Music by the Kol Miriam Choir
The idea for the Kol Miriam Choir originated 30 years ago at the Bar Mitzvah of Iris and Bernie’s son, Eric. Iris, who was teaching music to a group of Eric’s friends, formed them into a young girls’ choir for the ceremony. Subsequently they were asked to sing at other young people’s Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, and a choir was born.

Kol Miriam Choir CD "Wingin' It to Bernie"Kol Miriam means “Voice of Miriam.” Miriam was Moses’ sister and was the first singer to be mentioned in the Bible. With maturation and some change of personnel, Kol Miriam continues to enhance the Bar and Bat Mitzvah services and the High Holy Days services at which Iris and her husband Bernie officiated till Bernie’s untimely death in 2001. His place in the High Holy Days pulpit has been filled by their daughter Lee Andra. Although their concert dates are limited, Kol Miriam has made regular appearances at the series sponsored by the Sharon Performing Arts Association benefitting music scholarships for young Sharon, MA musicians. To keep Bernie’s memory alive, Iris established the Bernie Jacobs Memorial Music Scholarship with special concerts to raise funds for this scholarship which targets Sharon High School seniors who intend to specialize in music. Kol Miriam has just produced a CD, “Wingin’ It to Bernie” which is a live recording of the fourth concert in that series.

There are links on this page to three of the sixteen selections from the CD. If you are interested in obtaining a copy of the CD please contact Hayom at our e-mail address. All profits from the CD will be donated to the Bernie Jacobs Memorial Scholarship Fund.
